4. Results and Lessons Learned

• Mobilized broad-based participation of key stakeholders, strengthen cross-sectoral coordination and increased public participation and environmental awareness of decision makers and general public.
• Developed a strategy to improve air quality by organizing demonstration projects to control industrial emissions and promoted treatment projects of heavy polluted areas and heavy pollutant-emissions enterprises.
• Promoted clean energy by introducing the use of LNG for transportation system and architectural solar heating system for community use.
• Enhanced information dissemination and propaganda, broaden awareness raising, dissemination of the programme improvements and established a website.

• Strong political support and a special implementing structure is the guarantee to implement sustainable development strategy effectively, not only providing necessary human and material resources, but also playing an important role in policy adjustment and departments coordination.
• Extensive participation and information dissemination amongst government departments, communities, enterprises and private sectors are the foundations to successful project implementation.
• Well designed project initiatives and international cooperation can largely facilitate environmental protection process and foster participation from both of the government and the public.
• Sustained communication with both international organizations as well as among local departments can improve project management capacities and facilitate introducing advanced and practical experiences for the harmonious development of the city.
