Panzhihua’s City Consultation Conference was successfully held from March 16th to 18th, 2006. About 160 participants attended this conference including experts, leaders and representatives from UN-HABITAT, ACCA21, Peking University, Wuhan, Shenyang, Hailin and Guiyang cities, and Panzhihua’s key stakeholders. Mr. Huang Changming, the First Deputy Mayor of Panzhihua City, presided the opening ceremony. Mr. Sun Ping, the Vice Secretary of Panzhihua Municipal Committee of CPC and the Mayor of Panzhihua City. This City Consultation not only provided a platform for public participation but raised awareness on the collective responsibility to address environmental degradation in the city identifying air pollution as the most pressing issue. The event reinforced political support, which laid firm foundations for further development of the strategies and action plans through the establishment of cross-sectoral working groups focused on; Industrial Emissions control, Clean Energy promotion and propaganda - information dissemination.
