Sustainable Hailin Project
Brief introduction of Hailin City
Hailin is located in the southeastern part of Heilongjiang Province, covers
an area of 8816 sq kilometers, with a forest coverage of 72.4%; and a total
population of 440,000 people, which include different ethnicities such
us Korean, Manchu, Hui, and Mongolian. Hailin City receives financial,
political and industrial support from the Province.
 
Hailin is famous for its snowfields, winter tourism, being the home of Manchurian tigers,
and widely known for gChinese northern medicineh
Sustainable Hailin Project (SHP)
In March 2005, Hailin City was selected as one of the three SCP demonstration cities for the second phase of support to SCP-China, which aimed to improve the capacities of local governments to resolve the issues between urban development and environmental degradation, and thus to achieve sustainable urban development. Through the implementation of the project Hailin City has introduced SCP-EPM innovative methodologies to enhance urban management and environmental planning, strengthening current mechanisms to solve urban environmental degradation. SHP has committed to serve as a resource city to share its experiences to other secondary cities and towns in Northern China, were lessons learned expect be up scaled.
