TOP > Programmes > Global Campaign Global Campaign for Secure Tenure The
Global Campaign for Secure Tenure promotes the granting of secure
tenure as an essential and catalytic element of a sustainable pro-poor
shelter policy. It actively promotes equality of treatment for women,
particularly in respect of access to property titles, and inheritance
rights. The primary purpose of the Campaign is to give a voice to
the hundreds of millions of people living in slums and shacks, and
the homeless living in temporary shelter. All people have a right
to adequate housing, and security of tenure is amongst the most
important of all housing rights. The campaign actively advocates
equality of treatment for women, particularly in respect of access
to property title, and equal inheritance rights. The Fukuoka Office
is facilitating the Campaign in this region through various partners,
gradually expanding the coverage from country to country.Activities in 2005 For more information, visit "The Global Campaign for Secure Tenure". Global Campaign on Urban Governance The
main objective of the Global Campaign for Good Urban Governance
is to improve the quality of life in cities, especially for the
poor and marginalised. The campaign encourages local governments
to adopt inclusive strategies and participatory processes of decision
making, through which a partnership of city/programme networks could
be established regionally to agree and replicate successful operational
principles (norms) amongst national/city governments and communities.
This year, Campaign activities focused on establishing and operationalising
the Regional Consultative Group of partners to coordinate joint
activities, advocate and promote the Campaign regionally through
various workshops and symposia, information dissemination and studies
on tools; with direct support to National Good Urban Governance
Campaign Launches, which promoted national norms of good urban governance.Activities in 2005 For more information, visit "The Global Campaign on Urban Governance". BACK |
